Þessi bókmenntaverðlaun eru mikil viðurkenning, þau og raunar tilnefningin opna höfundum leið til vinsælda og vegsauka. Verðlaunin eru 50.000 pund (6,7 m. ísl. kr.) og skiptast þau til helminga milli höfundar og þýðanda þegar um árlegu verðlaunin The Man Booker International Prize for Fiction er að ræða. Þeir sem komast á stutta listann fá hver um sig 2.000 pund sem skiptast til helminga milli höfundar og þýðanda.
The Man Booker Prize voru fyrst veitt árið 1969.
Eins og kemur fram hér að ofan telur blaðamaður The Irish Times einsýnt að Jón Kalman komist á stutta listann.
